MSCRM 2013 Missing Posts Tab on the New Activity Feeds

MSCRM 2013 Missing Posts Tab on the New Activity Feeds

Recently I encountered a problem where by I could not see the ‘Posts’ tab on the new activity feeds for out the box entities like Account and Contact. The issue only seemed to occur for my organisations that had been converted from MSCRM 2011 to MSCRM 2013. For any new organisations that I created on 2013 the ‘Posts’ tab was visible. What appears to have occurred during the upgrade process is that I didn’t receive any changes to the sitemap. This meant that I could not see the new CRM 2013 sitemap items like the ‘Whats New’ Activity dashboard, but more importantly I could not see Post Configuration which should be accessible from the Settings. It is within Post Configurations that you can activate posts for given entities. In my case all entities had posts deactivated apart from user. To activate posts and therefor make CRM render the posts tab follow the instructions below.

HOW TO: Relinking System User to AD User

HOW TO: Relinking System User to AD User

Sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where a CRM system user record is no longer pointing to your Active Directory user. This broken link basically prevents the user from accessing CRM! Not good! In my experience this occurs due to the infrastructure IT bods not being fully aware of CRM and how it is tied to AD. So while managing AD they may delete users to keep things nice and tidy. While doing this, for example, they may accidentally delete the wrong AD account, recreate it and think everything will be OK, or they may delete someone who has left the business and a few months later the person is recruited back in to the business. I’m sure you can think of other reasons why the link between CRM and AD users might become broken but the effect is always the same… The user can’t access CRM anymore! So lets fix this with an example.

My results which can be found here, weren’t idea and I wanted to revisit my attempt to try and do a better job again without any hardcore development. Shai kindly left me some links to look at, and after setting up a new dashboard the resulting feeds are much much better! So another weekend, another attempt and heres the difference!

Before you get excited this is a blog about an attempt to use MSCRM dashboards to dashboard RSS Feeds. I’m going to be straight with you, I think this is a failed attempt! Didn’t see that coming huh? However, I wanted to demonstrate the outcome as it might be good enough for some people! Also I’m going to point out that with my first attempt I wanted to keep things as simple as possible. We are talking SUPER SIMPLE!

TIP: Quick Lookup Select

While testing customisation it can be a pain constantly filling in data, just to be able to create / update a record to test that script, plugin or workflow. Even more so if it is a required lookup that needs to be populated. You know how it goes, click on the lookup… wait for the box to pop up… search for you record, add it to the lookup box, close the lookup and wait for the original page to get focus…
