REVIEW: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sitemap Editor

In this review I will be looking at Sitemap Editor that has been released by Microsoft on the Marketplace. The solution for the Sitemap Editor can be found here. Thats right I did say SOLUTION! Unlike the Sitemap Editor for CRM version 4 which is an external tool to CRM, this version allows you to edit the site map from within CRM. I’d like to stress though that this does not mean you have to deploy the Sitemap Editor Solution when deploying a solution that has had its sitemap editted.

While testing customisation it can be a pain constantly filling in data, just to be able to create / update a record to test that script, plugin or workflow. Even more so if it is a required lookup that needs to be populated. You know how it goes, click on the lookup… wait for the box to pop up… search for you record, add it to the lookup box, close the lookup and wait for the original page to get focus…

When I first stumbled across the customisations I instantly thought Facebook status messages inside CRM. Cool, thats a neat idea but whats the point in it? With new exciting CRM development mythologies and technologies to learn and master it’s easy to get carried away and forget the basics. You can spend ages on a small issue, think up a whole host of whacky potential reasons for the error, and then finally decide to start with the basics to which you end up kicking yourself for your silly mistake.
